Responsibilities of an Offshore Chemist

As an Offshore Chemist, your duties will include:

  1. Monitoring offshore production chemical programs to evaluate their impact on production, integrity and environmental safety.
  2. Conducting optimization of production chemical programs to enhance operational efficiency.
  3. Undertaking hydrocarbon, water and gas sampling for routine laboratory analysis using approved procedures.
  4. Maintaining laboratory equipment, managing inventory of production and laboratory chemicals and overseeing the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  5. Assisting in diagnosing and troubleshooting production upsets and issues.
  6. Conducting chemical field trials as needed.
  7. Collaborating with field operational personnel to communicate daily tasks and progress on longer-term activities.

Qualifications and Skills Required

To excel in this role, you should possess the following qualifications and skills:

  1. A Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  2. At least 3 years of experience in the Oil & Gas industry, with a preference for experience in Commercial Laboratory settings, including proficiency in gas chromatography analysis and Mercury Analysis.
  3. A strong understanding of the proper application of production chemicals in the oil and gas industry.
  4. Familiarity with production processes and systems from downhole to pipeline distribution.
  5. Proficiency in using common Microsoft computer-based programs.
  6. Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  7. A strong focus on Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) practices.
