As the first Nigerian to ever command a US Navy battleship, Kelechi Ndukwe has cemented his place in history.
The United States Navy elevated Kelechi to the position of commander on Thursday, August 29, 2024.

“Friends and admirers, allow me to introduce you to Captain Kelechi Ndukwe, the newest member of the United States Navy,” Ogunbiade posted with photos from the promotion ceremony. Captain of a US Navy warship—the first Nigerian to hold that position! Your promotion is greatly appreciated, Captain. Deservedly so.
