Rema, the afrobeats superstar, received a royal plaque from Oba Ewuare II, the Oba of Benin.

On Thursday, during Rema’s visit to the palace before her homecoming concert in Benin City’s Ogbe Stadium, the Oba presented the singer with the plaque.

On Wednesday, Rema attended the Edo Arena groundbreaking ceremony alongside Godwin Obaseki, the governor of Edo State.

The 6,000-seat arena will be named Rema Dome in recognition of the singer, according to the governor’s announcement.

Rema, whose real name is Divine Ikubor, hails from Benin City and has long served as an ardent representative of Edo State through his concerts and musical compositions, highlighting the significance of the ancient Benin empire and its legacy.

His most recent popular single, “Benin Boys,” is an ode to Benin and features Shallipopi, another star from Edo.

For his efforts to promote the monarchy, Rema said in the song that he should receive a medal from the Oba.
